Below is a sample letter you can personalize and modify before copying and pasting it into your email:

Dear  (Name of Representative or Senator)

I am a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) who resides in your district. During the 2017 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly, Governor Nathan Deal issued a proclamation stating that September 11-15, 2017 is Georgia School SLP Week and as part of our week-long celebration I would like to share some information with you about SLPs and the role we play in Georgia schools.

We chose the theme Reaching New Heights in Communication for this week because SLPs are highly trained professionals who help students develop effective communication skills. Every SLP has a master’s degree and has completed a rigorous certification process that includes 400 hours of supervised clinical experience.

We work with students across all levels of education: elementary, middle, and high school; and we provide services in a variety of ways: in-class, pull-out, and consultation. We collaborate daily with classroom teachers, have weekly progress meetings with parents, and work regularly with guidance counselors as well.

SLPs are a crucial part of each school’s special education team, and we are affected by any education policy that affects schoolteachers.

(Please add additional information about your profession, roles and responsibilities and the joys and challenges that you face as a school based SLP)

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share this exciting news and information with you.

Sincerely,
(Your name, credentials, and address)
