As school SLPs, we want to provide language therapy that positively impacts our kids.  Through the years, I’ve queried my language-kids and most of them admitted, they DON’T LIKE WORDS.  But, there we were, in therapy, working on words.  Therefore, I’ve made creatively elevating words my focus; encouraging my kids to become word-conscious and to enjoy words, inside the therapy room and out.  For a while I thought games was the transfer-trick, but word-motivation requires more.

This effective, and timesaving therapy approach emphasizes the following: Activities that are Repetitive, Relevant, and in Context, Builds and Connects Language.  We’ll systematically create relevant, contextual tasks, to build and connect oral and print language concepts, to apply from session to session for learning continuity.  We’ll highlight language targets (especially vocabulary, syntax and grammar) within narratives that our kids like: short stories, poems, article, and reader’s theater.  I think both you and your kids will enjoy this creative and beneficial type of therapy!
